About The Search Engine

The Search Engine was developed as an assisting tool for my literature and media review. It browses the Reuters database for news articles related to Computational Propaganda and creates a personal, project-related, daily updated news feed. From a technological perspective, it was a first glimpse at working with an API, and collecting and displaying data with VueJs. It helped me to understand that search engines and their results are constructed. Google as the most prominent example has become a necessity to access information, but can’t be regarded as a neutral gateway (L'Ecuyer et al. 2018). The Search Engine represents a starting point for creating independent channels of information collection during the proposed literature and media review. Also academic outlets like JSTOR maintain an API, therefore it is possible to bypass the default search engine and access the database of articles directly.
